Al-Hajj Jalal Uddin Ahmad dedicated his life to education. In his early life as a teacher, he established Kamal Ataturk High School in Daganbhuyan, Bangladesh. Subsequently he moved to Feni and became Head Master of Feni High School, where he taught for almost 40 years. He was awarded numerous national awards for his dedication to, and achievements in, education. To this day thousands of his students are in established positions both in Bangladesh and overseas.

In retirement, Al-Hajj Jalal Uddin Ahmad spent his limited financial resources to educate talented students, particularly those whose educational options were limited by their means. The Ahad Family Education Fund is inspired by the life of Al-Hajj Jalal Uddin Ahmad, and is dedicated to his memory and continuing his legacy of universal and accessible education.

The Ahad Family Education Fund was established in 2006 by Dr Mahiuddin Abdul Ahad, his wife Mrs Kowkab Enayeth Ahad, and their two children Mr Fahim Ahad and Ms Fabbiha Ahad.

The Fund awards scholarships on merit to Bangladeshi students who are unable to complete their studies due to financial hardship, with a particular focus on assisting female students. Scholarships are awarded to students in order to assist them with the completion of their respective courses of study. Currently, there are more than 60 students undertaking their studies with scholarship from the Fund at various levels including high school, college, medical school and university.

The Fund is run by Dr Ahad and his family in Melbourne, Australia, in association with Mr Shahedul Islam and Mr Manzoor Hasan OBE in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Members of the Fund meet once a year in Dhaka to interview candidates and award scholarships.
