Potrait

Al-Hajj Jalal Uddin Ahmad dedicated his life to education. In his early life as a teacher, he established Kamal Ataturk High School in Daganbhuyan, Bangladesh. Subsequently he moved to Feni and became Head Master of Feni High School, where he taught for almost 40 years. He was awarded numerous national awards for his dedication to, and achievements in, education. To this day thousands of his students are in established positions both in Bangladesh and overseas.

In retirement, Al-Hajj Jalal Uddin Ahmad spent his limited financial resources to educate talented students, particularly those whose educational options were limited by their means. The Ahad Family Education Fund is inspired by the life of Al-Hajj Jalal Uddin Ahmad, and is dedicated to his memory and continuing his legacy of universal and accessible education.

MESSAGE FROM PATRONS

We welcome the opportunity to support education in Bangladesh for those most in need of opportunities. We have been visiting Bangladesh since 1974 and have grown to love it. We knew and respected Mahiuddin’s father and the Ahad Family Education Fund is a worthy memorial to a great man. Lucy and Mahiuddin are to be applauded for establishing the fund. We are motivated by the knowledge that education enables individuals to take charge of their lives, allowing them opportunities for meaningful remunerative employment.

We are fully committed to the Ahad Family Education Fund and will continue to support it. We welcome other supporters who might care to join us in this richly rewarding work.

MESSAGE FROM TRUSTEE

During my childhood my father used to say, “One thing no one can ever take away from you is your knowledge, acquired through a good education". As a father and high school teacher he always applied this principle to his ten children and thousand of his students.

My inspiration to help educate poor and talented students came from the life and teaching of my father Al-Hajj Jalaluddin Ahmad.

Since setting up the Education Fund, over 300 students have come through our doors, studying at various levels at school, college and university and every year more recepients get added to the list.

It is an overwhelming and often emotionally challenging task to select the right student for the scholarship, from so many deserving and talented students.

Our aim is to continue to provide scholarships to deserving students, who otherwise would be deprived of an education and would not be able to achieve their dreams.

Besides my wife Lucy and our two children Fahim and Fabbiha, our friends Mr Allan Myers AC, KC, Mrs Maria Myers AC, Mr Shahedul Islam Helal has been a constant support in setting up the Education Fund for the needy talented students of Bangladesh.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Allan Myers AC, KC, Mrs Maria Myers AC and Mr Shahedul Islam Helal.

I would also like to thank our member Mr Manzoor Hasan OBE and all the contributors to the Fund.

Finally I would like to thank our Education Fund Manager Mr Manjur Mahmud for his sincere and tireless work in running the activities of the Education Fund smoothly throughout the year.

  Dr Mahiuddin Abdul Ahad
